How to Use WEI

Matt 28:18-20

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
NIV

John 20:10-16

10 Then the disciples went back to their homes, 11 but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

13 They asked her, "Woman, why are you crying?"

"They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

15 "Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?"

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him."

16 Jesus said to her, "Mary."

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher).

What's a campaign like?

Lushnja

Elbasan

Tirana

WELCOME! The Metro congregation in Gresham, will be sponsoring WEI missionary campaigns again next summer in several cities in Albania. Students will be abundant!

These summer campaigns when complete will need follow-up teachers in all areas.
If you can go 3 weeks or longer at any time, just go!

Cost, travel, inoculations, materials to carry with you, etc. are described in the section below for most of the campaigns in Albania and in Kosova.

Missionary Travel Discounts - click here

You will need a passport. Presently you do NOT need a visa for Albania even if you are staying 3 months. For Kosova, in the year 2007, a visa will be required. Ask your travel agent.

1. Tirana, Albania
Campaigners to Tirana will experience working with missionaries Emily Pownall and other leaders. You will have lot of students and witness some great singing and Bible studies for yourself. Erik Qirjaqi is the Director of WEI school in Tirana. Dick is always looking for campaigners. Write Dick or call him at 503-661-0348. Tirana now has an active International School of Preaching much like that in Athens, Greece led by Sunset's International School of Preaching -- all in English. You should consider studying there. School began in January 2006.  Write Dick Ady for support -- food and housing is about $250 per month. Tuition is FREE! Tirana is building a new building to house WEI's school, IBIA, and give the church meeting place. The schedule for completion is not known at this time. Look forward to a campaign in 2007.
2. Durrės, Albania. (details available on Durres' page)
Campaigners to Durres will be asking for teachers again for 07. This city near the coast, is growing by leaps and bounds - 70 is their max attendance. Ēimi Kafexhiu is now a full time minister in Durres. Others are there for the year. Durres is a solid church with great leadership. A "beach church" plant is going on. Look forward to a great campaign in 2007.
3. Vlorė, Albania.
Write Virgil or Dick Ady for details for 07. If you are a youth leader, this should be considered as a wonderful outreach ministry for all of the churches in Albania. IBIA students will no doubt be involved in an encampment in 07.
4. Elbasan, Albania
Pete and Dulcie Hodge have returned to England to care for Dulcie who fell and injured her back; but Pete has announced that he will lead a campaign in 2007. Bledar and Valbona Valca are now leading the church there. Check with Bledar for the latest -- see Elbasan's reports. Also, Dick Ady will have the latest plans. Pete has announced a campaign in Elbasan in 2007.
5. Korce, Albania
Roger Michael served in 03 in Korca. Bill and Nancy Saltsman have returned to the states permanently.  Kevin and Allison Morrill are active now in Korce along with Roger. Korce is nestled among the mountains of southeastern Albania. If you like mountain scenery and lakes, cooler weather, and pleasant living conditions, you will like working in Korce. Write Roger for time and plans for how to help in this city.
6. Fier, Albania
Fier has a good church with around 8 attending. Fier is nearby Vlorė about 20 miles apart. Steve and Ruth Byrne from Alaska have moved to Fier and are hosting a great new effort. Write Steve to see how you or your church can get involved. There will not be a summer campaign in 2007. Click on Fier for contact information.
7. Lushnja, Albania
WEI and the church in Tirana planted a new congregation in Lushnja. Bill Morgan lead a campaign in 2002. Tom Bonner from Oregon is there as a full-time missionary, now in his 5th year. A campaign was held in 03 that increased the church to 10 members with more converts after the campaign. Tom helped in 04 with the Youth Camp in Vlorė. Write Tom to encourage him - weilushnja@albmail.com. For work July 16- August 17, write to Tom. He will be looking for several to join him in this project of teaching.  It might be possible that you cannot come for four weeks, but would be willing to come for two weeks.
8. Prizren, Kosova
The church is now led by Wes Dingman. The work there is slow, but positive. Choose to go there during the spring, summer, or fall. It's nice there. The winters are cold. It is strongly suggested that you write Dick to arrive at the optimum time. Teaching is needed all year long.
CLICK FOR PHOTOS FROM 2001. Go to the link on the left panel to see the latest report from Kosova.
9. Pogradec, Albania
There is now a church in Pogradec. This was an exciting church planting and studies continue. It is  highly recommended that you participate. Pogradec is in the south of Albania at a natural lake that looks exactly like Lake Galilee! And, the fish are good eating. Go there! Click on "Pogradec" under Durrės for more info. Hurry! You will be amazed what the Lord can do! Several worked from stateside worked with this church in 05. Support from Durres is regular, and Kevin and Allison Morrill worked there for a year. They are now in Korce. To learn more about campaigning in Pogradec write to Xhumert Nuro. Click here to read the reports and how to connect with the work in Pogradec.

If you plan to go to Albania
with us next summer as a short-term missionary, please let us hear from you.  If you  plan to stay four to six weeks, you may need to carry Bibles. WEI lesson materials are printed in Albania.  It isn't essential, but helpful to the churches in Albania to deliver Bibles to them.

You also need to send to Dick Ady $1,400 by May of 2007 to cover the estimated cost of airline tickets.  Of course, you can make your own flight arrangements. You have until the end of June to raise funds for food and lodging ($170 per week may need to be inflated due to the USD conversion rate increases).

  • Air transportation to all cities in Albania are from the entry point in Tirana.

  • Air transportation to Pirstina, Kosova likely will port from Vienna, Austria.

  • The NEW address in Prizren is in a home. Check with Dick Ady for details.

  • Transportation from the US from PDX and SFO to Frankfurt is direct. Nice! No overnight flights may be available. Go to Vienna and then directly to Tirana.

All Cities:

INOCULATIONS and HEALTH

  • "Health problems throughout Albania and in Prizren are minimal. However, it is wise to get your inoculations."
A good pharmacy is in Prizren. The hospital is within walking distance.
  • Public telephones are readily available as well as Internet Cafes. You can send your photos home if you have them on a floppy. Some Cafes will have  CD burners.

WHEN

  • You can choose the time you wish to be in Albania. You can go when campaigns are working or at any other time. You are welcome!  Check with the church where you want to go. We recommend going for 3 weeks or longer. Six weeks is typical for a campaign. Eight weeks will give more time for a student to get acquainted with a new teacher. Some students will drop out when you leave if the local missionary is overloaded. Two weeks will be a poor use of your money. If you leave a student behind, you may be able to continue teaching by email.

TRAVEL

  • You can check on safety and regulations at your travel agent.
  • Make your flight plans early! Making payment 30 days ahead of departure may not be required. Check with your travel agent. You may make your own arrangements or go with a group. Check with Dick Ady for group travel.
  • Safety in Albania is very good. Kosova is still NATO protected. The Muslim community is friendly and your students love Americans.
  • Entry by air from Vienna to Pristina is very good. You will port to Pristina, Kosova and should arrange ground transportation before arrival.
  • Travel plans are to be made and paid for individually.

TRAVEL AGENTS FOR MISSIONARIES

  • Travel People offers missionary discounts. A qualified agency is Travel People at 1-800-999-9912. Ask for Annie.
  • Overseas Express - ask for Renee Hixson at rhixson@ovex.com

  • The hotel and shuttles in Vienna for the trip home ARE INCLUDED -- Hotel Novtel in Vienna at the airport with breakfast. You may request special meals. Frequent flyer miles were credited to Austrian Airlines or United Airlines.
  • You need a passport. Albania does NOT require a visa even if you are staying 3 months.  Kosova will require a visa. Ask your travel agent.

Travel Insurance

You may wish to purchase travel insurance to cover lost baggage and medical help when in a foreign country. Here is a member of the church who can give you what you need. www.ScarbroughAgency.com

HOUSING & FOOD

  • It is strongly advised that you inform the leader early of your lodging needs. Give your plans for housing ahead of time.
  • Housing will be apartments, a hotel, or even a home, and it will be comfortable. Do not wait until the last minute to let your leader know that you are going. Couples will be housed together.
  • Food is plentiful. The water is good. Bottled water is available.
  • Good vegetables are available at the markets -- fresh and as good as from your own garden. The peppers are a treat.
  • There are good restaurants for a good meal for under $5. Apartments with self cooking can be rented for $400. It would be wise to check with your campaign leader for that city.

COSTS

While in Albania

  • You should plan to spend about $175 each per week for food and lodging while you are there.  In Tirana, you will probably be asked to pay $150 each per week up front to cover the cost of lodging and one delicious lunch with the other teachers at the London Restaurant, Monday through Friday. We found the food to be way too much for lunch; so, we reduced the typical meal to 1/2 and it was great! The other $25 a week each will cover the cost of evening meals and lunch on weekends (and breakfast if you stay in an apartment).

  • Each of you should also be prepared to pay an $18 entrance fee at the airport, a $10 exit fee when you leave the airport, and $15 for transportation each way to and from the airport.

  • Food is included in the $175 per week figure quoted above.  The noon meals are so big that many of the teachers take part of it home with them for the evening meal each day.  Delicious fruits can be purchased at a reasonable price on streets all around the WEI center.

  • You are encouraged to carry Bibles with you. Buy them for $6 ea. and carry 10 - 15 per campaigner. Bible weigh 1.5 lbs. each. You should buy and carry 10 - 15 cassette tapes ($0.75 ea.) for the Basic English. WEI will mail them to your address in the USA. You should procure a set of WEI books and be a prepared teacher. Click here for an order form. Order by phone, FAX, mail, or by email. If you use email, put ORDER in the Subject line.

  • All WEI lessons for students in Albania will be supplied without cost to you.

  • Shots cost. Check your insurance coverage. Hepatitis A is recommended. Start early.

  • Take new type US dollars, convert them there into the new currency. Europe is on Eu except Albania.

  • All expenses are tax deductible.

INOCULATIONS

  • Hepatitis A is recommended. Get your Tetanus updated. Consult with your own doctor or call the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.

TEACHING

  • Teaching will be in English. Interpreters are available if needed.
  • All students will speak and read English good enough to use the WEI lessons.
  • Teaching will be 1-on-1 for the most part.
  • We recommend that you go for at least 3 weeks. Less time is a poor use of your money.
  • Preparation: Get a set of WEI books, English & Bible and become familiar with the mechanics of it. You can view the contents on this Website. Click here.

WHO IS GOING?

  • Singles, couples, experienced missionaries, preachers, men, women, first timers and some from other countries, even teachers over 90 years have gone. Who? Take a FRIEND with you.
  • View those who were in Kosova on the photo page. Click here to view.

AGREEMENTS

  • WEI requires each campaigner to sign an Agreement Document before they teach in the campaign. The document outlines your responsibility NOT to recruit students to come to the USA. They are needed in the churches there.

WHAT SHOULD YOU TAKE WITH YOU?

  • It is no longer desirable for campaigners to bring over-the-counter medications, band aids, vitamins and such to give away except in Elbasan. Elbasan is helping the neighboring villages and vitamins are highly prized. In Kosova, the cost of medications is very low. Take money to give away instead of medications.
  • The students will admire your English dictionaries. Take some to give away.
  • Flashlights, batteries, other practical items are highly desired. All are available there at a low cost. Fill your 70 lb. suitcases for give away. Take an old computer to give away.
  • There may be no air conditioning except in Lushnja and Tirana, but the weather is very good in the summer -- better than USA!
  • Bring cool clothing, open knit shirts, no suits, no ties, a hat or two.
  • Bring European appliance adapters -- 2 prong, 220 VAC, 60 cycle. Check razors, etc. for 220 VAC service.
  • Your personal Bible, maps, teaching materials to tell that God is the creator and Jesus is Lord.
  • What about your laptop? Bring your locking system! INTERNET CAFES are available. Cost is around $2USD per hour. For your laptop, add an Internet Card with the large phone line connector. Take your Windows disk for installation files when setting up a network at a Cafe, and just in case you need to reformat.
  • Bring your camera and lots of film. A digital camera is great if you have enough image storage. I mailed my digital photos home for safe storage. A Sony digital that records onto a floppy is perfect. You will typically not find a cable connection to a PC at the Internet Cafes. Some cameras will transfer photo files without loading software onto the Cafe's computers. Just use Windows Explorer.
  • Bring common sense and flexibility.

MORE INFORMATION

May God bless us all as we strive to find our role in His Kingdom. Who will answer the call? As Eli said to Samuel, "The next time you hear his voice (and we must be listening), say, "Your servant heareth." If not YOU, who? If not THIS summer, when?

In the service of the Master who died that we might live.

Questions and Answers
Who can go? Any dedicated Christian who has the endorsement of his or her local church leaders. College students and healthy senior saints are welcome.

How long does a campaign last? A full campaign lasts about six weeks. However, if you can go for only three or four weeks and can be flexible with your dates, we can dovetail you with another teacher. Check with the campaign leader.

What are the dates? We leave America in July for summer campaigns. Email the location to find details. Do not assume dates published here to be final. Dick Ady can give you details too. It's a good idea to get ahead of planning. So, write now.

How much money do I need? You should raise $2,500 to cover the total costs of a six-week campaign in Albania or Kosova.

Inform your congregation
We would appreciate it if you would inform your congregation about these campaigns and encourage them to go and support teachers. This is one way you can build a fire for evangelism in the whole church.

God Bless you as you consider this opportunity to fulfill the Great Commission.

Yours for world evangelism,

Richard N. Ady
