Durrës, Albania Church of Christ

The church in Durrës is doing well.
"A meeting place has been found and a native preacher is now serving the congregation," January 2002.

"The attendance for each Sunday is between 43 Christians to 47 with an all time high of  70. Interns are in training. Some will attend the IBIA in Durres in preparation to become preachers."

10th Anniversary of Durrës Church of Christ
On May 29th 2011 the church in Durres will celebrate the10th anniversary of the church. The work in Durres started as an outreach of the church in Tirana.

Çimi started to work in Durres September 2000 and in January 7th 2001 we held the first worship service in Durres. Since then, a number of missionaries have greatly contributed to this church.

The work continues to grow with special classes for all and participation in the National Bible Bowl.

In 2012, the church in Durres along with other congregation are helping to plant other congregations in Albania. A 2 yr preacher's training school is underway in the southern part of Albania with Durres and several other churches participating in teaching.

The year 2013 was productive working throughout Albania and building the church in the community of Durres.

A word of gratitude
My family and I are never tired of thanking you for your support, encouragement, and prayers. We always remember all of you in our prayers and gratitude before our Lord Jesus in whom we have our life and the living hope.

The month of December was a busy time for the Lord in Durres church. We took the advantage of different holidays and gave glory to God by proclaiming his Good News of Jesus to the people of Durres.

Here are the activities for December 2013 to January 2014:
On December 20th, 2013, Fiona Shima was baptized into Christ by putting him on the waters of baptism. Fiona has been grown up in the church as a kid and now she is our sister in Christ. She wanted to be baptized since two years ago and I took time to go through bible lessons with Fiona to such length. I’m so glad she made this decision to follow Christ in the young age.

The winter Bible school
Last year in December 23rd, 24th, and 25th, we started for the first time a winter bible school like we do every year on summer (VBS). We had more than 100 kids and we taught the story of Jesus, his birth, his crucifixion and resurrection. On Christmas day the kids watched a new movie with Albanian actors which showed the story of Jesus and why he came and died for people. Daniela Kosta, our church secretary and teacher did such a great job teaching the kids.
While some of church members were focused with the kids at the church building on Christmas day, another group of Christians went to the center of the city of Durres and opened a booth and distributed and evangelized. We gave away Bibles, Christian books, brochures and other materials representing who we are and what we do in the city. Some of the girls from our
church had prepared crafting to with other things we gave away. It was a busy but glorious day we were able to serve and proclaim Jesus.

Visiting the orphanage and the kids’ hospital
My wife Anila and some other church members visited two orphanage places in the city. We took Christmas gifts and visited them. Anila and other church members have committed themselves to visit and help these kids every month. During January they took cloths and diapers for the kids. They also spend time with the kids there.

On December 26th, we visited kids’ hospital and gave Christmas gifts to them. As we gave gifts and a Christmas booklet for kids we met with their parents and prayed over their kids who were hospitalized. The doctor whom we (Anila and I) know took us to every room and introduced to them that we are from the church of Christ Durres and they are here to give gifts to the kids and pray for you. We were blessed to see and hear that God used the doctor to proclaim Jesus and his local church.

Ladies gathering
On December 26th, Anila and the ladies of the church organized an evangelizing gathering for the ladies. There were about 100 ladies together and they heard the gospel one more time. After the meeting I was able to meet all the ladies (I was behind the stage during the whole meeting) and hear them how they were blessed and happy for such events like this. We have been praying for fruits and acceptance of the gospel for all of these ladies. We gather them three to four times a year and proclaim Jesus.

Teens’ special gathering
On December 28th, 2013 we had a special gathering for the teens of the church. We have about 30 teens we work every week and a lot of work was done to come to this day. Ari who works with them and is my co-worker and two church members, Olta and Egnisa worked together as a team to prepare the teens. The focus of this event was for the teens to invite their parents. We hired the public school of music to have such event. We were blessed to get the public school and preach Jesus there. The teens had prepared short plays with great spiritual messages. I was able to share a message of Jesus to all the teens, their parents, friends and families. There were more than 120 people altogether on this great event. We give all the glory to God and our Savior Jesus.

The training Bible School
Finally, on January 13th, all the preachers and the missionaries in Albania gathered in Kucova for the monthly meeting and also for the inauguration of the bible training School. It was such a
great joy to see how God has been working in order to bring everything together. Much work has been done and many trips were made in order to come to that day. Praise God, the school is now a reality and is going great. We were happy to meet the students and bless, anoint and pray over each of them as they were ready to begin the journey of growth and study God’s Word.

There are 12 students for the first semester and five teachers. Eduart Hoxha, the preacher who works with the church in Vlora started the first class with the theme “The overview of the Bible”. Last week I taught the second class on Spiritual Disciplines. I traveled to Kucova and spent a night there in order to teach for two days. I’m so glad to see students eager and thirst for the Word of God.

Trip to the USA
The church in Bartlesville OK has invited my wife Anila and me to visit them during April 22nd to May 22nd. We are so blessed and honored to such invitation in order to share with them our victories and challenges in the Lord’s kingdom in Albania. If anyone interested in the Lord’s work in Albania and have us for few days we will be happy to visit you.
